Chapter 24: I Know I'll be Okay, Though my Skiies Are Turning Gray

You’re home, Cassie. Cassie? Oh no, you’re very hot!
Galvin? Cassie?
I’ll explain later, could we take her in?

Suddenly…

Who is that guy? And why is Cassidy with her?
Oh, god. Cassidy! She’s burning hot!
Let’s take her to the hospital.

I opened my eyes. My vision was blurry at first. I then saw Ingrid’s face.

M-Mom…?
Oh goodness. She called me Mom!
Cassie, sweetheart, are you okay?
D-Dad? Where am I?
You’re at the hospital my dear. Your fever seemed to cool down.

We were worried. We’re afraid were gonna lose you.

Worried? They cared for me? That brought me to tears.

I’m sorry… Mom… Dad… I’ve been a bad girl. I-I didn’t realize…
Shh. It’s okay now. We understood your situation. It wasn’t easy for you.
I’m sorry sweetie. But everything’s going to be okay now.

I have fallen asleep after that. When I regained consciousness, I heard a voice. I didn’t open my eyes. I listened to the voice. Galvin’s voice.

I settled with him, Cassie. He would explain everything to you. I didn’t want to give up, but what’s the point of fighting if you wouldn’t be happy with me? This was the first fight I came out a loser. Be strong, Cassie. Just like the Cassidy I’ve know. The Cassidy I fell in love with.

Then the voice stopped. The next thing I heard was the sound of the door being closed.

Chapter 23: The Sun seems far and Hard to Hold

She must be his girlfriend. Tears ran down my face as I figured the truth. How can he hurt me this much? It felt as if all my strength was gone. I ran across the hallway to my room.

Later that night, at the mansion…

Have you seen Cassie?
Maid: She’s not in her room, sir. She must’ve run away again.
I really want to talk to her.

I can now say that I am invincible. There is no greater pain than losing somebody you didn’t have. And what’s worse is that he didn’t even know you love him.

Something fell in my head. I reached to touch it and apprehended it was a raindrop. Another fell on my head. And another. Then rain started to fall.

“Hey.”

I saw Galvin’s figure.

It’s raining.
So?
You would get sick.
(smirks) Nobody cares. I might as well die.
Don’t say that. C’mon let’s go find shelter.
Go away. I don’t want to see you.
There you go again.

Galvin sat with me in the street. Both of us have no protection from the rain or whatsoever.

Why are you still here? I told you to leave didn’t I?
What if I don’t want to leave? What if I want to stay with you?
You’re sick.
Call me whatever. I’m not going to leave you in the rain.
Leave me alone.
I won’t. C’mon let’s go home.
(sighed) I don’t want to walk. I’m tired.
Then climb over my back. C’mon. The rain is getting harder.

Galvin carried me all through. I was exhausted. I felt hot all over.

Why is life so unfair? Why do I have to lose everything I love? Am I that bad?
You are not bad, Cassie. You know what; I liked you since the day you fought with me. I love girls that are fighters. I can give everything to you, so why don’t you pick me?
You can give me everything?
Everything.

.................

Then, can you give me Harris?

Chapter 22: A Picture Paints a Thousand Words

I realized it was already ten in the morning when I woke up. My head was a little heavy. I was having a bad headache.

Maid: Good morning, ma’am. A guy named Galvin called for about ten times since last night.
Okay, thank you.

Galvin was that concerned for me. He’s a great guy. After I took my late breakfast, I proceeded to my room. I didn’t want to go to school today, I, simply am not in the mood.

I find myself standing at Harris’ room. What am I doing here? Something inside me wants to go inside this room. I knocked. Then I opened the doorknob. Harris wasn’t there. I was going to leave the room, when a picture caught my eye.

I edged closer and picked it up. It showed a wavy-haired girl with deep brown eyes. She has an angelic smile that lighted up her whole face. She was pretty, no doubt about it. Then it struck me. She was the girl. The girl who was with Harris last night at the movies!

Chpater 21: Everything's Been Bitter

The girl laughed as she edged closer to Harris. She cuddled in his strong arms. Harris looked at the girl intently.

So that’s why he was gone. He has a new girl.

Pang. Why am I hurt? Why does my heart aches this much?

Hey, Cassie, are you okay?

I-I gotta go.

Hey, Cassidy!

I budged out of the movie theatre. I didn’t care where I was going. I didn’t care where my legs would take me. I just have to get out of this place.

It was 11pm. Someone knocked on my door. I didn’t want to answer it.

“Hey, it’s Harris.”

Oh great. The last person I wanted to see right now.

Can you please open up? I want to talk to you.

I didn’t answer him.

Cassidy, please.

Go away.

Please, open the door.

I threw a pillow to the door. Why wouldn’t he stop? He had done enough.

Okay then. Sleep tight, Cassie.

I then heard his footsteps slowly fading away. What’s happening to me? Why am I mad? He didn’t do anything wrong, did he? I was the one to be blamed. It’s because I have fallen deeply in love with him.

Chapter 20: When do Stars fade thier Light?

When I went down for breakfast, Ingrid and my Dad weren’t there anymore. They left for work. Good. I ate my cereals. Then I thought, “What happened to Harris?” It’s funny how we live in the same house yet I haven’t seen him for two days now. Hmmm, do I… miss him?

Have you seen Harris?
Maid: He left early today ma’am.

That’s funny. We have no class for this week. How come he already left?

Six forty-five. That was the time registered on my clock. I was already dressed up for the movie. I was on my usual outfit, wearing black tank top, cargo cropped pants and my pink chucks. My hair was pulled in a high ponytail and I wore a pink bangle to top it all off. I brought my skateboard with me and climbed towards my room window. I went down and moved along to our main gate. Outside, I found Galvin.

You’re early.
Whoa, what time did you arrive?
About six. I don’t want to be late you know.

I gotta laugh at that. Then, we skated our way to the movie house.

Inside, we settled for a chair. It was a bit uncomfortable going to the movies with Galvin for the first time. But, the whole period, it felt as if he were a long time friend.

At the middle part of the movie, a couple entered and sat on the chair before us. The guy looked familiar. Was it…?
It was Harris!
And what is he doing with this girl?
In the movies!
